Colt 1851 Navy Blackfeet Indian Inlaid Revolver
This is an immensely rare and important Colt Model 1851 Navy Model Revolver altered and used by a Blackfeet (Blackfoot) Native American Indian Warrior. The revolver features a 7 ½ inch octagon barrel, six-shot single action, in a .36 caliber. This example is from a collection in Browning, Montana of which all of the items were collected from the local Blackfeet Indian Reservation. This colorful Colt 1851 Navy displays six design-stamped/tooled silver inlays in the right walnut grip panel along with two notches cut into the left side of the walnut grip panel crafted by a Blackfeet Indian Warrior. Remarkably, this historic revolver has all matching serial numbers on the frame, butt, cylinder, trigger guard and barrel. The cylinder retains most of the fine roll factory engraved scene depicting a battle between the Texas Navy and that of Mexico. The left bottom of the frame is correctly marked, “COLT’S PATENT” and the upper side of the brass trigger guard on the same side is marked “36 CAL.” The cylinder is marked, “COLTS PATNET No. 6876”. Top of the barrel is marked, “ADDRESS COL. SAML. COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA”. This immensely rare Indian Used Colt 1851 Navy Model revolver shows an overall uncleaned very pleasing natural aged gray/brown finish patina with surprisingly excellent and tight mechanical action. This is a very fine condition Colt with colorful Western native American history! Serial Number of 206876. Antique Firearm requires No FFL. The silver inlays show the correct manufacture and age to be of an early addition at which point the Blackfeet Indian acquired the firearm, most likely via trade or a battlefield war prize.
