Colt 1849 pocket model, .31 caliber percussion, 5” barrel, blue and case hardened finish, varnish wood grips, one-line New York address, 5-shot cylinder, serial #323585. In fine to excellent condition, contained within a rare original contoured case with flask, mould, and accessories. The bottom of the case is inscribed in fancy script “William W. Fouche Jr. 239 N. 6th Ave. West, Phila, Pa. 1864”. Mr. Coulter obtained this set from the General Fouche family decedents in the 1950’s. See bio on Fouche. The Colt retains approx. 90-95% bright original blue on barrel, some minor losses at the edges. Some just beginning erosion and pinprick pitting on the rear of the barrel lug. A few marks around the wedge port but generally fine to near excellent overall. The cylinder shows 85-95% original bright blue with nearly all the cylinder scene, just some minor areas of pinprick pitting, some small losses of finish, a light index line and a small amount of aging. The frame shows 30-50% case hardening within a silvery grey. The hammer shows traces of case hardening. The loading lever shows 90% bright and fiery case hardening. The varnish wood grips are fine to near excellent with 90% plus varnish
