Colt 1849 Pocket model, .31 caliber percussion, London series, blue and case hardened finish, varnished wood grips, iron backstrap and trigger guard, serial number “827”. This pocket shows 6” barrel, and is contained within its original to the period blue veletine lined oak case with instruction label in lid. The revolver remains in original very good plus to near fine original condition with approx. 40-60% original blue on barrel, evenly drifting and flaking and areas where finish is lost have gone to a light natural grey patina. There is some light erosion and pinprick pitting just starting. The edges are sharp, the barrel address is crisp. The cylinder shows approx. 90% original stagecoach scene with well-defined figures and about 50-70% thinning and drifting blue. The frame shows 50-70% case hardening with some colorful and vivid areas aging nicely. The hammer and loading lever show 30-50% thinning original case hardening. The backstrap and triggerguard show 30-50% original thinning blue. The varnish wood grips are very good plus to near fine with 80-90% varnish thinning at the edges, some slight scratches, but generally exceptional overall. All matching visible serial numbers, British proofed on barrel and cylinder. Tight action, pristine interior. The revolver is contained within its original to the period London-type casing with original lining and partitions which are in very good condition just showing some dirt, slight tatters, small impressions, and normal aging. The label in the lid is at least very good. The iron .31 caliber pocket mold is good with some pitting, the nipple wrench is good. The bag-shaped Dixon flask is very good plus to near fine but not pocket model marked and shows a 3-stage charger from 3/8 to 5/8 drams and retains 80-90% lacquer with bright blue on the spring. Unopened cartridge pack and cap tin also included. The exterior of the case is good to very good and shows brass fittings, some small losses at the edges and normal aging but at least very good overall. With original DuPont inventory sheet indicating purchase from George Parizo, 1941. Mr. Parizo was a noted Washington DC area firearms collector. Note: These velvetine-lined cases are more deluxe than the standard green felt lined examples and are desirable to Colt collectors. Est: $3,500 - $7,000
