Produced in 1857. Barrel is the part round, part octagon "Dragoon" configuration, which has been a point of contention among gun authorities regarding authenticity and exact date of origin. Pin and hammer notch sights, with the bracketed two line New York City address on the top flat of the barrel, "COLTS/ PATENT" on the left side of the frame, and the Holdup scene roll stamped on the cylinder. Matching partial numbers on the wedge and loading lever, with matching full numbers on the cylinder, frame and grip straps. Silver finished grip straps, with smooth one piece varnished walnut grips. With a reproduction American-style case, lined in green velvet and containing the following; two tins of percussion caps (one with an "ELEY BRO/LONDON" lid and a brown lacquer finish), a un-opened packet of Hazard's Combustible Cartridges, a double cavity brass bullet mold marked "COLT'S/PATENT" and a eagle and shield powder flask.

Condition: Good. A silver gray patina is showing on the barrel, cylinder, frame and hammer, with some pitting. Half of the cylinder scene remains visible, with battered nipples and solid pins. Strong traces of the original silver remain, concentrated on the butt and in the protected areas, with a fine aged patina on the brass. Revarnished grips, with some mild pressure dents, bending away slightly at the toes. Case is fine as relined, with mild external wear. Accessories are all fine or better. Mechanically fine.
