Copy of 'Resources and Advantages of Colorado', published in 1873 by the Authority of the Territorial Board of Immigration. Excellent, exceedingly rare historical piece. It was written to advertise the Colorado Territory to potential settlers, describing the agriculture, mining, and industry of the area as well as its climate, geography, and social landscape. It contains extremely detailed discussion of all these topics with population statistics, price lists, temperature tables, and other numerical references.
This booklet represents a historic chapter in the settlement of the American West, including discussion of the 1862 Homestead Act and a section reassuring white settlers of the forcible military removal of the Ute, Cheyenne, and Arapaho peoples to reservation land. Bound in nice marbled paper (almost certainly a rebind), 47 pages, generally in great condition with minimal toning. A real treasure for historians of Westward Expansion. See photos. 5.75"x8.5".
