The present woodblock print depicts a very popular motif in Chinese art. The bamboo is one of the Three Friends of Winter and a signifier of integrity and modesty in Chinese symbolism. In the lower right there is a calligraphic inscription ???? (Sheng Yuan Xi Ji) and a red seal.



The sheet is in fair condition according to its age, somewhat toned and with slight blemishes along the margins. It has light handling creases and a small hole in the lower right corner. The two upper corners are mounted on cardboard with tape. The frame shows minor wear. The framed work measures 40.5 x 30.5 cm, the sheet size is 25.5 x 29 cm. (tfa)
