Beautiful color lithograph of ducks (mallards) in flight over a pond signed on the lower right: Leon Danchin and numbered 301/500. The text: Copyright by La Gravure Francaise 41 Rue St Georges - Paris is printed on the upper left border of the image (partly illegible). Danchin (1887-1939) was a French School artist born in Lille. From his early childhood he was attracted to drawing and hunting. He studied at L'Ecole des Beaux Art in Paris and was accepted by the Salon des Artists at the early age of sixteen. His interest developed towards country and hunting scenes. His engravings and lithographs were immediately successful in the art world. He served as a soldier during the Great War and, upon his return to civilian life, went back to hunting and studying animals. Leon Danchin died at the beginning of the Second World War in Bergues, where he is buried. Danchin is listed in Benezit. In good used condition, mounted on board as shown.
