Beautiful and rare color stone lithograph entitled Tavern in Rome after the painting by renowned Finnish artist Alexander Laureus (1783-1823). Laureus was known for his realistic genre paintings of everyday life and big city working class people. The Swedish Royal Academy granted him a six year traveling scholarship in recognition of his talent. He spent the first three years in France and the following three years in Rome where he died at age 40. The original painting on which this lithograph is based is part of the collection of the Duke of Leuchtenberg Gallery in Munich, Germany. The text on the print reads as follows (in German): Gemalt v. A. Laureus. Munchen in der liter artist Anstalt. gedr. v. B. Berner. Auf Stein gez v. J. E. Cardon. Osteria in Rom. Aus der herzoglich Leuchtenberg Ichen Gemaildelammlung in Munchen. Das Original auf Leinwand gemalt ist 2' hoch und 2.10' breit.

In French: Osterie a Rome. L'original le trouve a Munic dans la galerie de S. A . J. le Duc de Leuchtenberg. L'original peint sur toile a une hauteur de 2' sur 2'10 de largeur.

In good used condition with foxing, toning and small tears on borders that can be mostly concealed by a mat at the time of framing. Please ask questions, request additional photos and shipping costs before buying.
