Colonial era flintlock fowler showing strong Germanic influence and styling signed A.K. and dated 1718 on the barrel. The gun measures 77 ½” overall with 61 ½” round barrel of approximately .80 calibersmoothbore. The lock is in its original flintlock configuration showing a dark brown patina with original hammer, frizzen, top jaw , screws and small parts. There is a collection tag numbered 1402 wired to thescrew. The barrel shows two brass inlays where there had been a sight on the barrel which was moved back or taken off. The side plate shows a serpentine influenced shape and the trigger guard shows simple treetop style finial. The butt plate is thin brass nailed on. The butt measures 2 ¾” in width with thick and heavy Germanic style. The stock has had extensive restoration and has been darkened to black finish at the point ofrestoration to mask the repairs which were done long ago. The forend cap is an old incorrect replacement using cow bone. The ramrod thimbles and mounts show a dark patina. This Fowler may well have been
