Colonial Document : March 29, 1649. La Compagnie de la Nouvelle France
Colonial Document, Dated : March 29, 1649. Issued by: La Compagnie de la Nouvelle France. To: Pierre Boucher, founder of Boucherville, Quebec. This one page (410 mm. x 330 mm.) is a certified true copy of the document listed on page 166 Letter E in the Office of the Records in Quebec City. It refers to the giving of 80 arpents of land to Pierre Boucher at Trois Rivieres, to open the first trading post in the new world. This was originally written August 12, 1644, by Charles Huault de Montmagny and confirmed by his secretary Pierre Lemay. The document is then confirmed on March 24, 1649, by Jean Godefroy de Lintot as a true copy and further confirmed by a signature that is not identified. The document is a 3 folded page with a watermark of a seated Britannia in an crowned oval and lettering that is difficult to identify as several of the folds are taped, and the tape in on the lettering. The outer page has 6 lines of information, two dates, a No. 10, and two lines in French with a signature. This document demands a much closer look as if it could be one of the first financial documents issued in North America. Estimated Value: $2500.00
