Colonial Document. Dated: June 2, 1733. Issued by: Rene De Couagne 1690-1767 Montreal merchants, Colonel and judge in the Montreal Militia, land owner on St.Paul St., a tax collector under Intendant Hocquart, married to Louise Pothier. This receipt confirms that De Couagne was a tax collector and that Jacques Viger was a shoemaker. This is the first known record of the Viger family name that went on to be a very important family in the history of Montreal. The 5 line page (155 mm. x 100 mm.) has 3 folds and numerous pin holes, a small rip on the right bottom and a tear on the left bottom of the page but does not affect the text.
