Colonial Document: 1721 Hotel receipt
This document is on thick parchment measuring 203 mm. x 122 mm. but has no watermark! Issued on November 17, 1721, it appears to be an accounting for the stay of 4 people at an inn. The reverse side of the document has a woodblock stamp in black ink but the only word legible is "LION". The cypher of Louis XIV is in the centre of the stamp, along with 4 quadrants for words and Fleur des Lys around the outside. The document has no holes or dirt marks, but it has 2 folds, parallel to each other running left to right and a weak centre fold running top to bottom. Both ends are ragged, the left more so than the right. There is a very fancy signature in the bottom-right corner with extensive flourishes and swirls. Value: $125.00
