Extremely Rare Virginia “An Act for the more effectual and Speedy Clothing the Army” October 16, 1780 Issue Note

Treasury of Virginia. October 16, 1780. “An Act for the more effectual and Speedy Clothing the Army” Issue. Four Hundred Dollars. Printed on Thin Laid Paper. Backed and conservation. Fine.

Fr. VA-200. This issue is perhaps the most historic Revolutionary War patriotic series on Virginia. The printed text stating the noble cause towards “An Act for the more effectual and Speedy Clothing the Army.” All notes on this issue are extremely rare in any quality and are lacking in most collections. This note has been previously backed long ago with an early archival fiber paper to preserve it from internal and edge splits. It has some conservation. There are also some repairs to portions of the left and top outer designs and to some text at the upper left. Overall, this important Virginia “Army” note has a whole and complete appearance with the eye appeal of Fine quality. Signers include; B. Webb, J. Hopkins and James Turner. Rarely ever available, this is one issue we believe to be of a greater value than as listed in the Newman reference on page 454. One of a mere 1,500 notes that were printed.
