Crisp Uncirculated May 7, 1781 Virginia PCGS New-62
Treasury of Virginia. May 7, 1781. Thirty Five Dollars. PCGS graded New-62.
Fr. VA-214. Rarely ever seen in Crisp Uncirculated quality, this 1781 Revolutionary War note is printed by John Dunlap, who also printed the first Declaration of Independence printed Broadside. The PCGS holder has No negative comment as the paper is extremely crisp and fresh in appearance with boldly printed text and strong rich brown signatures. This note is so sharply printed and crisp, significant traces of original press text embossing remains within the fresh original paper. Rarely are notes of this issue seen fully Uncirculated. Only 2,760 notes of this Thirty Five Dollars denomination were printed. Being so rare in high quality, it is not priced above Extremely Fine in Eric Newman’s reference “THE EARLY PAPER MONEY OF AMERICA” page 455. This exact note now in a different PCGS holder was previously Ex: EAHA Auction of April 19, 2013, Lot 476, where it sold for $2,420. An excellent opportunity for quality minded collectors.
