May 3, 1779 Virginia Treasury Fifty Dollars PCGS VF-30
Treasury of Virginia. May 3, 1779. Fifty Dollars (Fifteen Pounds). PCGS graded Very Fine-30.
Fr. VA-169. This higher quality circulated Revolutionary War large size format Treasury note measures about 4” x 5.75” and is double denominated in both Dollars and Pounds. Holder notes minor restorations. There are full margins providing excellent centering to the well printed text and designs. Three signatories include; A. Craig, H. Cocke and James Cocke, all of whom sign clearly in brown ink on the clean laid period paper. This Fifty Dollars denomination is the second highest value on this 1779 Virginia issue. This current example looks similar in quality to the Newman plate illustration on page 451. A handsome, very collectable note.
