South Carolina, City of Charleston, July 6, 1789, One Shilling and Three Pence, with Tobacco Plant and Hemp Rope vignettes, Engraved by Abernethie, PCGS graded About New-50PPQ (Premium Paper Quality).
Fr. SC-197. An lovely “Abernethie” engraved and designed City of Charleston, South Carolina issued note, its sharply detailed “Tobacco Plant” and “Hemp Rope” vignettes located at lower left. Engraved by Abernethie, his name seen within the text block design, next to the Hemp Rope. Only 12,000 of these City notes were authorized to be printed, uniquely styled having a rectangular shape. Both signatures of “C. Warham” and “S. Beach” are clearly and boldly written in rich brown as the two required “Commissioners.”
