Rhode Island Currency
Rare Choice May 3, 1775 Rhode Island Two Shilling Note
Colony of Rhode Island. May 3, 1775. Two Shilling. Signed by “Henry Ward” (1732-1797) while Provincial Secretary, PMG graded Choice Very Fine-35.
Fr. RI-178. A superior quality very early Revolutionary War note, issued less than one month after the historic April 19th, 1775 Battle of Lexington and Concord, PMG graded as Choice Very Fine-35 with repaired, trimmed noted on its holder. This cataloger finds the latter comment amusing as all Colonial Currency notes are trimmed, as made and cut from their original sheets. This note is quite nice having clear well printed text and designs within four full margins. Nicely signed in red ink at bottom by “Henry Ward” (1732-1797) served as Provincial Secretary of Rhode Island from 1761 to 1797, later becoming Rhode Island Secretary of State. A very nice note.
