Fr. NY-162CFT. An original, circa 1771 “original” American Contemporary Counterfeit made note, printed on proper appearing thin laid period paper, falsely signed by “Bache,” “W Franklin” and “A. Lott”. It has the contemporary word “Counterfeit” handwritten on the blank reverse side, surviving intact counterfeit notes on this issue are very rare. This specimen is of the rare 10s denomination which is specifically listed and identified in Newman on page 472 under “New York Counterfeits” as the second type, the “S in X.S. much smaller than X and tilted to the left.” The single finest quality note of this type was have offered being whole and complete, well centered having light even (actual) circulation!
