JOHN MORTON (1725-1777). Signer of the Declaration of Independence, Chaired the committee that wrote the Articles of Confederation, Delegate to the Continental Congress during the American Revolution providing the swing vote that allowed Pennsylvania to vote in favor of the United States Declaration of Independence.
Pennsylvania. April 3, 1772. Four Pence. Plate A. Signed by “John Morton.” About Fine. Fr. PA-151. This well circulated note shows nicely from its face side, with a full clear “John Morton” signature written in brown. The reverse side is even more heavily worn with well executed conservation and repairs to seal a centerfold split. The brown ink signature “John Morton” measures a large 1.5” long with a strong appearance. A rarely encountered issue, and a low denomination note bearing John Morton’s historic signature.
