Pennsylvania. April 10, 1777. Four Pounds. Black Printed Text. PCGS graded About New-50.
Fr. PA-224a. This rare Revolutionary War major type in the April 10, 1777 Black Printed series is extremely difficult to locate, specially in such high grade. Noted on its holder, "Apparent small internal split near bottom left of center." This actually is created on a tiny thin in the paper where its internal watermark is located, likely therefore as made. A sharp woodcut vignette on the reverse side is very clear, showing a farming scene, along with the John Dunlap imprint. The two signatures are quite bold, written in red and brown ink. A rare quality and denomination missing in most collections.
