Finest Seen November 21, 1757 North Carolina Five Pounds Note “Pay-ment” of Taxes Hyphenated - Rarity
North Carolina. November 21, 1757 Session Act. Hand-Dated December 15, 1757. Five Pounds. “Pay-ment of Taxes” Hyphenated. Light conservation, sealed splits. Very Fine.
Fr. NC-94. These Public Notes were typeset and printed by the historic North Carolina printer James Davis. This exceedingly rare, early North Carolina issue note that was authorized for payment of taxes. The Face side has strong eye appeal and the appearance of Extremely Fine. It has nice centering with a whole, solid and complete appearance, vastly superior in quality for this issue and among the Finest Known.

It is the Finest PMG Certified as this outstanding note was cut out of a misattributed PMG holder erroneously stating the issue was “1756 -1757 (written dates)” and where it was Graded “Very Fine-30”. It is far superior to the two NC-94 notes, both tied in grade as Fine-12, for the correct issue and significantly finer than the Newman plate note illustrated on page 318. Signed by John Starkey and Thomas Barker. These notes were Hand-dated both 1757 and 1758. They were completed in manuscript. All are extremely rare, specially in any better collectable quality and this is the Finest Known to us.
