“NEW YORK WATER WORKS” GEM Crisp Uncirculated
Colony of New York. January 6, 1776. “NEW YORK WATER WORKS” Issue. Eight Shillings. Gem Crisp Uncirculated.
Fr. NY-184. Exceptional fresh paper quality and wonderful centering make this 1776 Revolutionary War note extremely attractive. Printed in red and black, its paper retains significant original traces of press text embossing. The paper has sharp edges and corner tips with red and brown signatures. This “NEW YORK WATER WORKS” issue was printed by Hugh Gaine with a period engraved vignette illustration of a Mechanical Steam Powered Water Pump on its reverse. Only 5,000 of these 8 shillings notes were issued, and this one has beautiful eye appeal.
