Elusive “PPQ” Massachusetts June 18, 1776 6 Pence Note
Colony of Massachusetts. June 18, 1776. Six Pence. PCGS graded Very Fine-25 Premium Paper Quality.
Fr. MA-193. Variety with Treasury Due Date of “June 18, 1778.” This scarce small size note is very clean, well printed within four large margins and has only light even circulation. All printed text is clear and has a nice strong brown signature of G(eorge) Partridge and low serial number 220 which add color. Overall, this is a remarkably clean and pleasing circulated note of a very low denomination, having only 8,000 originally authorized to be printed. All notes of this issue should have been redeemed back into the Massachusetts Treasury and destroyed by June of 1778. Rarely are notes on this issue graded PCGS Very Fine-25 with “Premium Paper Quality” added.
