June 18, 1776 Massachusetts 2s4d Choice Crisp EF+ / AU
Colony of Massachusetts. June 18, 1776. Two Shillings & Four Pence. Due Date of June 18, 1779. Choice Crisp EF+ to About Uncirculated.
Fr. MA-199. One of the freshest and brightest original examples of this 1776 Revolutionary War Massachusetts “Small Sword in Hand” issue pence denomination notes one is likely to encounter. The outer border designs and text and sharply detailed with perfect centering within four very large even margins. This note has choice eye appeal with a faint vertical fold and some light handling. Its paper is exceedingly clean and original in appearance, with a choice red ink signature of Moses Gunn and serial number. A premium quality note, virtually matching the Newman plate example illustrated on page 210 of the 5th Edition. Perhaps the finest known. Certainly a note needed by most collectors, and in this outstanding condition likely a major quality upgrade for all!
