Massachusetts “Paul Revere” Engraved Copper-plate Note May 25, 1775 Eighteen Shillings - Due Date May 25, 1776

Colony of Massachusetts Bay. May 25, 1775. Eighteen Shillings. Copper-plate Note Engraved by Paul Revere. Due Date of May 25, 1776. Split restoration, pieces added. Punch Cancels. PMG Net graded Choice Fine-15.

Fr. MA-147. This uniface, Paul Revere engraved note was issued just one month after the outbreak of the Revolutionary War. The vast majority of notes observed often have some condition flaws. The overall eye appeal of this PMG graded is excellent for Net Choice-15. Very evenly margined and clear texts except for two small punch hole cancels. The signatures are well accomplished. The note has sealed fold splits and a small piece restored in the right central margin seen with scrutiny. Over the many years we have handled several of the historical notes and we have always considered them rather undervalued. One of only four to be PMG graded. This note is quite appealing in this price range and represents a tremendous value for its history and rarity.
