Fr. MA-289. Anderson MA-28. This Revolutionary War issue is listed in Newman as Massachusetts 1781 “Written Date”. These are also listed in the Anderson fiscal paper reference and transcends both collecting fields. This example has four full margins and choice centering. Type illustrated type on page 216 in Newman noting Only 5,000 issued. A fresh clean example of this large format note, printed in bold black and Signed by Henry Gardner as Treasurer. This example being more rare in that it is actually endorsed upon its blank reverse “April 1791 - Jn Sprague” thus demonstrating the actual payment made. This certificate is payable to the Bearer in Six months and were receivable for taxes, with value “as equal to the same Sum in Silver and Gold.” A lovely clean example having superior eye appeal. Endorsed on the blank reverse by “Jn Sprague.” Dr. John Sprague (1754-1800) was one of the earliest physicians in Milton, Mass. having studied medicine with his father and in Europe.
