New York. June 22, 1790. One Penny. “New York Manufacturing Society.” with “Mind your Business” motto, Small Change Note. Choice Extremely Fine.
This extremely popular, important and historic Federal Period small change note is signed in printed text by “H. Ten Brook, Treasurer.” The left and right side margins bear the text “Printed by Hugh Gaine - New York.” It is well printed in black having light, even circulation on very clean bright period wove paper. Type as listed in Newman on page 305, where it is not priced in any grade. This Extremely rare One Penny denomination is popular with collectors as it shares similar to the text on the 1787 FUGIO CENT, printed on the central reverse which has the famous Benjamin Franklin motto, “Mind your Business.”
