1777 Georgia $7 with a Fabulous “HAND” Seal Vignette
Georgia. 1777 Act. Seven Dollars. Fabulous “Hand” Seal Vignette. Choice Extremely Fine.
Fr. GA-88. A classic Georgia Revolutionary War color Seal type on the 1777 series. In the Ford X-Boyd Sale, there were two “Hand” notes offered which realized $9,200.00 and $6,325.00 respectively. This is the one of only two examples we have catalogued since compiling our computer records and it is quite a beauty! The period laid paper quality is crisp with just some expected folds from circulation and enjoys excellent border ornaments fully on the paper but for a few at the lower right corner which is slightly trimmed. The “HAND” Seal is superb blue, well detailed with great line flow within the Hand itself. The motto, ULTIMA RADIO, is clear (note: this is an error, the second word should be RATIO and even this current example is printed such that the D appears like an L). The reverse is very clean and free of typical notation, having only some see-through from the well inked signatures on the face side. Signatures include; Samuel Saltus, Benjamin Andrew, Thomas Stone, Nehemiah Wade and William O’Bryen. All notes from this 1777 Georgia series are wonderful classic American currency notes, yet the “HAND” is truly a beauty in many respects. This vividly printed red and black note will make the new collector proud. It also technically qualifies as an “Error” note, due to the Text Error in the Seal motto. A “highlight” Georgia note in superior quality, that is rarely available.
