Rare 1777 Thirteen Dollars “Liberty Cap with Cornucopia”
Georgia. 1777. Thirteen Dollars. “Liberty Cap with Cornucopia” Blue-Green Seal. PCGS graded Very Fine-20.
Fr. GA-91. This very rare issue 1777 Revolutionary War period circulated note has a lovely colorful vignette seal at lower right. Printed in red and black, this note is quite clean and even in its appearance. Its text and designs are well centered. The holder states apparent edge and internal splits and tears, mounting remnants on back. However we see no mounting traces and there is only a short fine separation at the Seal edge. Signed by all five signatories including: Thomas Stone, Benjamin Andrew, Samuel Saltus, William Ewen and William O’Bryen, all handwritten in brown. The “Liberty Cap with Cornucopia” Blue-Green Seal is particularly sharp and clear having pleasing strong color and definition. The Newman reference displays a $17 note for this issue which is nearly comparable in quality to this “Liberty Cap” $13 note. These very odd amount higher denomination notes are popular with collectors always and considered of greater value due to their significant rarity.
