Extremely Rare Fully Issued 1773 Georgia 20 Shilling Note
Province of Georgia. 1773 Act. Twenty Shillings. Fully Issued. Typeset. Conservation. Choice Very Fine.
This colorful 1773 Georgia Colonial rarity is fully signed and issued. As such, it is significantly of higher rarity than unissued notes. The red and black printed text is bold, being printed upon uniformly clean laid period paper. This note has three very large margin plus a substantial portion of its indent at left. It is in overall high quality with an expert split seal and repair to the top and bottom centerfold and corners. The signatures are clear and easily readable, as it the serial number.

All issued notes were to be redeemed by 1776 back to the Georgia Treasury and be destroyed. It is printed in both red and black on a larger size format having a blank reverse. The final line of boldly printed red text reads, “UNTIL THE TWENTY-NINTH DAY OF SEPTEMBER, One Thousand Seven Hundred and Seventy Six, AND NO LONGER.” According to Newman, these certificates were used to redeem prior Tax issues, with only £520 authorized to be issued as replacements for previously issued “decayed” notes and to make up for £73 in bills that were destroyed in a fire. A rather astounding, tiny number of notes by modern standards!
