Sharp Benjamin Franklin Issue June 1, 1759 Five Shillings
Delaware. June 1, 1759. Five Shillings. Benjamin Franklin “Printed by B. Franklin” Issue. “Sea Serpents” vignette. PCGS graded Fine-15.
Fr. DE-65. The June 1, 1759 5 Shillings denomination is rarely encountered, specially so pleasing in appearance. This Benjamin Franklin printed note seems conservatively graded, has clean and attractive overall eye appeal. One of the finest examples of this scarce denomination to become available to collectors. “Sea Serpents” are an unusual vignette type, and these are particularly pleasing and clearly detailed. Noted on its holder with restorations. The text and designs are readable and clear with a particularly sharp Sea Serpents and legend “Printed by B. Franklin.” Quite rare as only 8,000 notes were authorized to be printed, to be theoretically redeemed by June 1773.
