Fabulous Blue Ink “HAND” Vignette Seal “ERROR” Seal Rotated as if held out to Shake Your Hand !
Georgia. 1777 Act. Seven Dollars. “Hand” Vignetted Seal. Unique “ERROR” Seal, being printed Rotated 90 degrees, appearing as if being held out to Shake Hands, PMG graded Choice Very Fine-35.
Fr. GA-88. Unique “ERROR” Seal. A classic 1777 Revolutionary War Georgia bold color Seal type. In the John J. Ford, Jr. / Ex-Boyd Auction Sale there were two such “Hand” Seal notes offered, neither with the Unique “Error” Seal, which realized $9,200.00 and $6,325.00 respectively. This is the one of only Three “Hand” Seal examples we have catalogued, is a remarkable “Error” printing, and it is a beauty! The laid period paper quality is clean with just some light folds from circulation. It has excellent printed border ornaments that are fully on the paper and has no negative grading service comment.

The “HAND” Seal is superb blue, well detailed, with great line flow within the Hand itself being a Unique “ERROR” Seal, printed rotated 90 degrees, appearing as if being held out to Shake Hands instead of pointing straight upwards. The motto, “ULTIMA RADIO” is clear (note: this is another “Error” Printed on this note, as the second word should be “RATIO” (not RADIO). The blank reverse is very clean, its five full signatures include; Samuel Saltus, Benjamin Andrew, Thomas Stone, Nehemiah Wade and William O’Bryen. Notes on this 1777 Georgia series are absolutely wonderful and classic, yet the “HAND” vignette is truly a special beauty in many respects. This vividly printed red and black note with its vivid “ERROR” Seal making it a highlight of any Colonial Georgia Paper Money Currency collection.
