Colonial Coinage/Connecticut Coppers: Dramatic Double-Struck Draped Bust Copper
1787 CT Copper, Draped Bust, with a Dramatic Double Strike, Very Fine-30. 125.3 grains. This dramatic error started out as a normally struck Connecticut Copper which received a strong, second blow from the dies. The second strike was slightly rotated and approximately 30% off-center, with impressive added effect to the error. The dies hit the coin the second time with such force that the planchet slightly split at 4:00. One sharp 1787 date is plainly visible on the reverse. The surfaces are evenly porous and some traces of scattered minor verdigris on the obverse. The main attraction and significant value of this piece derive from the exceptional drama of the sharply detailed, double strike error!
