Collis P. Huntington - Chesapeake, Ohio and Southern RR Co. (Ohio) A 1894 dated certificate signed at the bottom right by Collis P. Huntington as President. Huntington was one of the most important railroad builders in American history. Arriving in California as a successful merchant in 1849, he soon began building what would become one of the great American railway fortunes. In 1860 Theodore Judah approached Huntington with a plan to build a railroad across the Sierra Nevada Mountains as part of a trans-continental railroad project. The development of Judah's plan brought together Huntington, Leland Stanford, Charles Crocker and Mark Hopkins, a combination that would come to be known as "The Big Four." This combination of successful California businessmen led to the eventual completion of the Central Pacific Railroad, culminating in its connection with the Union Pacific at Promontory Point, Utah in May of 1869. Punch cancellations partially into signature. Extremely Fine. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. On occasion eBay live bid software cannot keep up with the pace of the auctions where 4-5 lots per minute can hammer down, so we recommend that you place a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
