1) This shield has a profuse amount of silver koftgari decoration along with some gold koftgari highlights. There are four floral bosses that also have silver koftgari. There is an applied raised edge around the outer perimeter that also has silver koftgari designs. The backside has the remains of a red cloth lining. 2) Optimized for piercing strikes through enemy armor, this weapon, 13 3/4 inches in overall length, is fitted with a 7 1/4 inch long blade, with a wide fuller on each side, a set of three converging reinforcement ribs in the fullers, and a 2/5 inch thick diamond cross section just behind the tip. The grip is decorated in a twisting pattern, with 7 inch long main bars and 2 3/4 inch wide grip bars. Provenance: The William Ashby Collection

1) Very good, There is a dark aged patina in the protected areas with some minor areas of oxidation. Almost all of the silver and gold koftgari remains. There are 3 small indentations from the reverse side. The cloth lining is poor. 2) Fine, with a bright gray patina on the blade, and a dark brown on the grip. Some pitting and handling marks overall, and a few chips on the edges.
