Collector's Lot of Two World War II Japanese Bolt Action Rifles -A) Scarce Japanese Type 2 Paratrooper Rifle

A) This is a nice example of a late WW II Japanese paratrooper rifle produced by the Nagoya arsenal. The top of the receiver has the Royal Chrysanthemum (partially struck) over the Kana markings for Type 2. The left side of the barrel takedown mechanism or attaching section is marked with assembly number "874" and on the left side of the receiver is marked with the serial number "3141" next to the Nagoya Army Arsenal factory mark. This is fitted with the early tangent rear sight graduated from 300-1,500 meters with anti-aircraft wings and peep sight with the standard inverted "V" front sight with guards. The front barrel band has two screws with the middle band having a single screw with the slot in the top. It has matching takedown assembly hardware and is fitted with a correct plum shaped bolt with an unnumbered sheet metal dust cover. The rifle has a standard two-piece hardwood stock with a drain hole on the underside of the stock, a cupped buttplate and side mounted sling swivels.

Very fine overall with 80% of the original blue finish. The stock and forend are both very good with a nice darker brown color overall with minimal handling marks. A nice example of a late WWII rifle.

B) This is an early series 5 type 38 carbine manufactured at the Nagoya Arsenal. The top of the receiver has the royal chrysanthemum intact over the kana markings. The series mark, serial number and Nagoya factory mark are on the left side of the receiver. It is fitted with the short staff rear sight graduated from 4-20 (400-2,000 meters) with the inverted "V" front sight. It has the original two-piece stock with the cupped buttplate and single barrel band. It comes with an original, sheet metal dust cover, late war plastic push-on muzzle cover, original cleaning rod and original leather sling. The trigger guard and floor plate are both marked with "C44Y" which may have been an identification/proper mark of the veteran who brought the rifle home.
