A) Springfield Armory Model 1888 Ramrod Bayonet Trapdoor Rifle. Buffington rear and blade front sights, ramrod bayonet and smooth buttplate with trapdoor. "V P eagle head P" proof and inspection marks on barrel with "A" on top at breech, "US/MODEL/1884" marked breechblock, and "Eagle/Shield" motif next to "U.S./SPRINGFIELD" on the lock. Oiled stock has a circle "P" proof, a boxed "SWP / 1892" cartouche, and "12 / 472" stamped on buttstock (right side).

Condition: Fine. The rifle retains 40% original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina. The breechblock and upper tang retain 40% original case colors. The stock is fine with some minor dings and scratches with a couple minor chips missing near the ramrod bayonet channel. Mechanically excellent.

B) The 1863 dated lock plate has the standard "eagle/shield" and "U.S./SPRINGFIELD" markings with the breechblock dated 1869 with the eagle head/cross arrows over "US". Matching number on barrel and receiver. Blade front sight/bayonet lug and ladder rear sight, with sling swivels, two barrel bands, and iron ramrod. With "US" marked bayonet and scabbard with frog.

Condition: Fair. The metal surfaces have been cleaned and there is some light pin point pitting. The sanded and reoiled wood is fair with some dings and dents with a long hairline crack behind the rear barrel band on the underside and some missing sliver on the ramrod channel. The bayonet has a mottled gray patina with some minor pitting. Mechanically fine.
