Collector's Lot of Two U.S. Springfield Trapdoor Rifles -A) U.S. Springfield Model 1888 Ramrod-Bayonet Trapdoor Rifle with Sling
Features ramrod bayonet, one piece trigger guard, serrated trigger and butt compartment. Buffington rear sight, with precise windage and elevation adjustments and a fixed blade front sight. The rifle has a blue finish with casehardened breechblock and barrel tang. Oil finished black walnut stock with a boxed "SWP/1891" final inspection mark on the left wrist and a circled script "P" and small letter "B" behind the serrated metal pistol grip. The buttplate tang is marked "U.S." and there is a orange painted "5/K/50" unit marking on the left rear of the buttstock. The buttstock compartment contains a cleaning rod.

Very good. The barrel has a minor pitted brown patina. The remaining metal surfaces have a smooth dark patina. The stock is very good with a few minor chips on the toe, and overall a few minor dents and dings. The cartouche is sharp. The markings are clear. The action is fine.

B) U.S. Springfield Model 1884 Trapdoor Cadet Rifle
Second Type Trapdoor Model 1884 Cadet rifle produced from 1890 to 1893. The left rear of the barrel is marked "V/ P/ eagle head/ P" and "US /MODEL/1884" on the breechblock. The lock is correctly undated. Square base fixed blade front sight which doubles as a bayonet and adjustable "R" marked Buffington rear sight. Two piece trigger guard and trigger bar assembly, three click tumbler, serrated and checkered trigger, low arch breechblock, stacking swivel, headless iron ramrod with slot, and stock has a "U.S" marked carbine style iron buttplate.

Fair. The metal surfaces have a smooth gray patina. The stock is good with a couple of small gouges on the forearm cleaning rod channel, and overall some minor dents, dings and scratches. There is no visible cartouche on the stock. The markings are clear. The action is fine.
