A) "SPRING/FIELD/1847" marked on the lock behind the hammer with the eagle shield over "US" ahead of the hammer. "V/P/eagle head" on the left rear of the barrel. Blade front sight, bayonet lug on the underside of the barrel, iron tulip head ramrod and mounted with a smooth full length walnut stock with "US" marked iron buttplate.

Poor. The metal surfaces have a silver gray patina with some moderate flash pitting on the breech end of the barrel, bolster, hammer and lock. There is some scattered discoloration. The stock has been lightly sanded and remains fair with three small gouges on the right wrist area, and overall some minor dings and scratches. The markings are clear. The action is fine.

B) Blade front and three-leaf rear sights, with "V/P/eagle head" on the upper left breech flat. The lock is dated "1862" behind the hammer, eagle with shield and "U.S./SPRINGFIELD" ahead. Mounted with a smooth straight wrist stock, with "U" marked barrel bands, sling swivel on the middle barrel band and front of the trigger guard and "US" marked buttplate tang.
