A) This is a nice original example of a U.S. Colt Model 1917 double action revolver. The revolver has the wartime brush blue finish with bright hammer sides and smooth two-piece oiled walnut grips. The top of the barrel has the two-line Hartford address and 1884-1905 patent dates. The left side of the barrel is marked "COLT D.A. 45" with "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" on the bottom. The butt is marked "U.S. / ARMY / MODEL / 1917" ahead of the lanyard loop and "No / 21 / 427" behind it. The Rampant Colt trademark is located on the left side of the frame behind the cylinder latch with the final inspector's monogram "GHS", for Major Gilbert H. Stewart, stamped on the upper left corner of the frame. Standard blade front and frame notch rear sights.

The top of the barrel has the two line S&W address/patent dates. The left side of the barrel is marked "S&W DA 45", the underside of the barrel is marked "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" and the bottom of the butt is marked "U.S./ ARMY / MODEL / 1917 / No / 20 / 827".
