A) U.S. Model 1836 Waters Contract Percussion Conversion Pistol. Percussion conversion of a Model 1836 Pistol originally manufactured by Asa Waters of Millbury, Massachusetts in 1838. The pistol has a swivel ramrod and strap on the barrel band that extends to the side plate. The buttcap is integral with the iron back strap. The cone type percussion conversion replaced the hammer, with brass pan cut down (not flush with lock). The lock plate is marked with an eagle head above "A. WATERS/MILBURY.MS. / 1838". The left side of the barrel is marked "U.S. / JH / P". The left stock flat is stamped with two inspection marks. Many of these pistols were converted for use in the Civil War.

Condition: Good. The pistol has a smooth brown-gray patina with evidence of having been cleaned some time age and some minor dings. There is some minor flash pitting with some minor pitting on the ramrod. The stock is also good with a large dent near the upper tang and a fine hairline cracks, along with some minor dings, pressure marks and scratches.

B) Manufactured by Henry Aston & Co. in 1847. This pistol has a 54 caliber, 8 1/2 inch smoothbore barrel with a swivel, button head ramrod. The lock plate is stamped "US / H.ASTON & CO." in front of the hammer and "MIDDtn / CONN / 1847" vertically behind the hammer. The barrel has no visible markings. The left stock flat has two faint cartouches.

Condition: Fair. The barrel, lock plate, and hammer have a smooth cleaned bright gray patina with some pin point pitting (mostly concentrated on the lock plate). The brass has a polished appearance that is beginning to age again. The refinished stock has been repaired in the grip area with a large chip missing near the upper tang, otherwise good with a couple hairline cracks near the lock plate, a minor crack near the side plate, and some minor dings.
