This example has the back of the action rounded and the fences have a relief engraved Fleur-de-Lis. The receiver, trigger plate, trigger guard, break lever and forearm hardware have extensive tight English floral scroll engraving. The top of the rib has a hand filed matting with two flourishes of floral scroll engraving on either side of the engraved barrel address "DANL FRASER & CO/GUN & RIFLE MANUFACTURERS/4 LEITH ST. TERRACE EDINBURGH". The barrels have a single brass bead sight, are choked .006/.021 and have 2 3/4 inch chambers with ejectors. The bores measure .725 for the left and .735 for the right. Wall thickness is .060 for the left and .049 for the right. The "SAFE" marking is inlaid in gold. Mounted on a beautifully figured, multi-point checkered walnut forearm and straight grip stock with teardrop flats, a decorated initial shield and a checkered horn buttplate. Length of pull is 14 5/8 inches, drop at heel is 2 1/8 inches, drop at comb is 1 5/8 inches, cast off at the heel is 1/8" and cast off at the toe is 1/4". With a leather covered takedown two gun motorcase, two sets of snap caps, a two piece cleaning rod, bore mop, bore brush and a chamber/choke brush.

Fine as period refinished (barrels and wood), the barrels retain 98% plus of the high quality blue finish with some minor wear and some loss of definition on the engraved bands at the breech ends of the barrels. The trigger guard and break lever retain 90% plus of the original blue finish. The casehardened components retain traces of the original case colors in the protected areas with a bright appearance on the balance. The reoiled wood is also fine with some scattered scratches, dings and a minor chip on the forearm. Mechanically excellent. The case is very good with wear, flaking and indentions.

B) Engraved Daniel Fraser Side by Side Box Lock Shotgun
This example has flourishes of floral scroll engraving on the receiver, trigger guard, trigger plate, forearm hardware and break lever. The rib has a wavy line pattern roll engraved with a rectangle that is engraved "DANL FRASER & CO. LEITH EDINBURGH". The barrels have a single brass bead sight, are choked .000/.034 and have 2 3/4 inch chambers with ejectors. The bores measure .729 for the left and .730 for the right. The wall thickness is .057 for the left and .061 for the right. Mounted on a straight grain multi-point checkered walnut forearm and straight grip stock with silver initial oval and serrated horn buttplate. Length of pull is 14 3/8 inches, drop at heel is 2 1/4 inches, drop at comb is 1 3/8 inches, 1/8 inch cast off and 1/8 inch toe in.

Fine as period refinished, the barrels, trigger plate and trigger guard retain 90% of the high quality blue finish with scattered scratches, a few small areas of minor pitting and some areas of wear. The trigger guard is slightly misshapen at the front and back. The case colors are original with 30% remaining mostly in the protected areas. The chambers have been lengthened from 2 1/2 inches. The reoiled wood is also fine with some scattered scratches and dings. Mechanically fine.
