The maker of this piece is unknown, with George D.H. Gillespie of New York suggested by the consignor notes. Brass bead front and notch rear sights, with scroll engraving on the chamber and tang, and a 6-pointed star on the bolster. Additional scrollwork is present on the lockplate and hammer. Checkered bird's head stock, with engraving on the wedge escutcheons, accent and reverse plates and the triggerguard, as well as zig-zag borders on the inscription shield and teardrop buttplate.

Condition:
Good, showing mostly areas of gray patina and scattered handling marks. A dark gray patina is showing on the hammer and lockplate. Stock is good as revarnished, with some varnish loss and dents. Mechanically very good.

Fair, with a light brown patina on the barrel, showing areas of gray, spotting and mild handling marks. A darker gray patina is showing on the lock and breech, with a portion of the lock screw chipped away. Stock is fair, with a crack on the left side running from the escutcheon to the tip, another from the barrel to the reverse plate, mild dents and varnish loss. Mechanically fine.
