A) Manufacturer: Gillespie Model: Pocket
Produced in New York City circa 1848-1870. German silver blade front and notch rear sights, with "CAST STEEL" on the barrel, "GILLESPIE/WARRANTED" on the breech, and "GILLESPIE" on the lockplate. Scroll engraving is present on several parts. German silver stock furniture, with a checkered bird's head butt.

Condition:
About good, showing a mixed brown patina overall, bright edge wear and mild spotting. Stock is fair as repaired, with a replaced section of wood over the lock, a thin crack running from the barrel to the lock screw edge wear and dents. The name "W. Holliday" has been scratched into the buttcap. Mechanically fine.
B) Manufacturer: Wurfflein Andrew & William Model: Pocket
Active from 1845 to 1871, Andrew Wurfflein operated in and around Philadelphia, and was the first member of the Wurfflein family to appear on record as a gunsmith. Dovetailed silver blade front and notch rear sights, with "A. WURFFLEIN/PHILa" on the top flat, "CAST STEEL" on the upper right, a sunburst pattern on the top of the breech, and a zigzag pattern on the left, along with a bordering pair of silver bands at the breech. The Wurfflein mark is repeated on the lock plate, with scroll engraving on the lock, hammer, and upper tang. German silver furniture, with a silver finished brass wedge in the tip of the stock, and an engraved trigger guard. Checkered bird head stock.

Fair, with a dark, mixed gray patina on the steel, showing a small amount of pitting on and around the nipple and bolster, along with scattered handling marks. Stock is fair, with a crack extending from the reverse plate to partway up the barrel, scattered dents, and a loose butt cap. Mechanically good.
