The maker of this piece is unknown, with George D.H. Gillespie of New York suggested by the consignor notes. Dovetailed blade front and notch rear sights, with a pair of silver bands and light engraving on the chamber, and further light scrollwork on the tang, bolster, lock and hammer. The hammer is also fish head engraved. Checkered bird's head stock, with German silver furniture and a blank inscription shield on the wrist.

Fair, with a mixed gray patina on the steel, with scattered pitting and handling marks. The stock is good, with a small crack opposite the lock and a few small chips and dents. Mechanically very good.

Though unmarked, the features on this pistol suggest manufacture by George D.H. Gillespie of New York, circa 1848-1870.
