A) Westley Richards Monkey Tail Breech Loading Rifle. Blade front and folding ladder rear sights with ".483 / .450" stamped behind the rear sight and "[illegible] PATENT" ahead of sight. Chamber area marked "70 GRAINS C" on top and British proofs next to the serial number on left side. The "monkey tail" breechblock is marked "WESTLEY RICHARDS/ PATENT" and the lock plate is marked "1867" inside a triangle and "WESTLEY RICHARDS & Co". Single barrel band with bayonet lug and sling swivel with brass buttplate, trigger guard, and forend cap.

Condition: Good. The barrel has been cleaned at one time and now has a smooth gray patina with streaks of a darker patina. The hammer and lock have a smooth gray patina with some minor pitting. The brass has a polished appearance. The stock is good, with some minor dings, scratches, and pressure dents. An iron rod is embedded in the forearm and is exposed on both sides. Mechanically excellent.

B) Blade front sight/bayonet lug and folding ladder sight on a barrel marked with various proofs and the number "25" on the left side at the breech. Lock plate marked, with a large "crown/VR" and "1862 / TOWER". Brass buttplate, trigger guard, and forend cap. Smooth straight grip stock with three barrel bands secured with screws, iron ramrod, and leather sling. Complete with a F. Preston socket bayonet.

Condition: Good. The barrel and barrel bands have been cleaned and there is some minor pitting with some deeper flash pitting. The hammer and lock have a mottled gray patina. The brass has an even patina. The wood is very good with numerous minor dings and scratches and "RS" carved on right side of buttstock, with a couple minor cracks on left stock flat and minor crack on forearm with a missing sliver (left side). Bayonet has been cleaned and there is some minor pitting with a punch dot "2" above the maker marking.
