Collection of Scarce Song Sheets: 1820s
A collection of over 150 song sheets, the majority of which are from the Civil War period or earlier. Over 90 have fully illustrated black and white (some with color) covers, ranging from the comic to the patriotic; those from the 1840s-1860s are relatively scarce. Included is a wide variety of musical material, with Stephen Foster songs such as "My Old Kentucky Home," "Massa's in de Cold Ground," "Beautiful Dreamer," etc. Ethiopian medodies include songs sung by the Christie Minstrels. Some 30 pieces are from the 1820s to 1830s, about half of which are Scottish songs, the balance being from New York or Philadelphia. Average to fine condition, with small to larger tears on some sheets; light age toning. Should be seen in person to be appreciated. Sold "as is." The retail value is much higher than our estimate. An excellent lot for the dealer or serious collector.
