This lot features a pair of two fo-Ivory snuff bottles with scrimshaw art. The first bottle display a beautiful scrimshaw Owl scene while the second has a elegant frog scene. Snuff bottles were used by the Chinese, Mongolians during the Qing Dynasty to contain powdered tobacco. Smoking tobacco was illegal during the Qing Dynasty, but the use of snuff was allowed because the Chinese considered snuff to be a remedy for common illnesses such as colds, headaches and stomach disorders. They where also popular in the 1920s to hold cocaine and other party drugs. Both bottles are in good condition for there age. Measure: 3" H x 1 1/4" D x 2" W
