Literature:
Note: Manna is an edible substance that, according to Abrahamic doctrine, God provided for the Israelites during their travels in the desert according to the Bible and the Qur'an. During the period of 1950 to 1955 Colin Middleton was living in Ardglass, Co. Down and painting full-time under contract with the Victor Waddington Galleries in Dublin. His subjects included rocky landscapes and seascapes as well as Biblical quotations, the latter being the source of inspiration for this oil. Manna was exhibited with Waddington, alongside twenty-nine other works in oil.
