Cohen, H. DESCRIPTION GÉNÉRALE DES MONNAIES DE LA RÉPUBLIQUE ROMAINE COMMUNÉMENT APPELÉES MÉDAILLES CONSULAIRES. Paris, 1857. 4to, contemporary crimson full morocco; both boards paneled in gilt; all board edgeds ruled in gilt; gilt inner dentelles with moiré endpapers; spine rebacked with black label, gilt; all page edges gilt. (4), xliv, 359, (1) pages; 75 engraved plates of coins. Binding a bit worn, but sound; spine somewhat discolored, with label worn. Text foxed, with some foxing to plates as well. Very good. The classic work. Engraved by Dardel, the finely executed plates are still an excellent attribution aid. Rare. Babelon 146: "Cohen never tried to be 'scientific' but, rather, simply precise, and it is thanks to this that he did such a great service to science, publishing valuable coin descriptions."
